CheatCode #34: How I stay productive with ADHD.

Something to make you think:

"It takes 10 years to become someone who can do it one week."

The people you see now who can do things very easily took a decade of effort to get there.

Start your 10 years now.

Interesting stuff I read last week

This is a new segment I'm introducing this week. It's basically a collection of articles, books, essays, etc. that I read in the last 7 days that I believe you will find useful. Enjoy.

7 Ways I Stay Productive In A Distracted World

I have ADHD.

And not in a “oh my god I’m so ADHD” way, i medically have a chemical imbalance in my brain which means i find it hard to focus on certain things.

At the same time, I run multiple companies, have a fund, have a great social life and exercise.

Here are my 7 rules I use to stay productive:

  1. I use a dummy phone every morning. It only has audible on it and no social media. I make sure my mornings are distraction free.
  2. I always keep 1 tab open. The curse of 1000 tabs is real. Having 1 tab will make you really focus on the task ahead.
  3. I say what I’m going to do out loud. Saying out loud what you're going to do wakes up your brain to just focus.
  4. I have a clean environment. A cluttered environment is a cluttered mind. Make sure that your surrounding area is clear, allowing you to just focus.
  5. I only have 3 things I need to do per day. People often create these long to-do lists which lead to failure. i tend to just focus on 3 things, this gives me that feeling of control.
  6. Schedule do nothing, periods. I schedule periods where i do nothing, it could be just watching stupid youtube videos but scheduling it gets it out of my system makes me feel less guilty.
  7. I give myself grace. I can do all those things and still find something spending 1 hour on TikTok. When that happens, I don’t berate myself.

Questions From You

We’re bringing out a new section called Questions from you.

Very self explanatory.

You send questions. I pick one. I answer them.

This weeks question is from David who runs a deep tech company.

I have a business idea which is in the deep tech space. We work with universities to build a new 3d modelling chip for their R&D department. But I’ve been struggling with investors who don’t seem to be interested in what we’re doing.

David, the mistake you’re making is going to investors with just an idea.

Especially if you’re a first time founder you need traction, you need to show that your business is going to work anyway and they’d be lucky to invest.

In your case, I’d suggest you get signed letters of intent from your potential customers saying that if you build this, they will purchase it.

Those signed letters of intent will be gold- dust to investors to show that you have something worth investing in.

Remember never go to investors asking for a handout, always negotiate from a position of strength.

Timo.

Reader, This week has been a reminder: we don’t have forever. And because of that I really want to encourage you to go for it. Whatever 'it' looks like for you whether it's making your first hire, quitting that job, going on that date...taking that holiday. Just do it. Something to make you think: I’ve actually been thinking about Steve Jobs lately. Do you remember his final note before he died? “At this moment, lying on the sick bed and recalling my whole life, I realise that all the...

Morning, Hope you’ve had an amazing week, smashing goals and setting the bar higher. So… my product launch is finally behind us, and I’ve been doing some reflecting (as always 😅). Some things went really well, and others… well, let’s just say they went hilariously sideways. Like, the kind of wrong you have to laugh at or you’ll cry. But hey, that’s also the game, right? In the spirit of celebrating both the wins and the “what-was-that-even?” moments, I’ve got something special for you this...

P.S. If you’re actively running a business, I've got something special for you at the bottom. Keep reading. Something to make you think: "You don't need to sound smart. You don't need to look cool. You just need to take action. When people get stuck and desperately want to get out, they wonder what to do. They spend so much time wondering what to do that they become even more stuck. Yet, the answer is right there in front of them. Action. It's always action." Something to make you act. One of...
