P.S. If you’re actively running a business, I've got something special for you at the bottom. Keep reading. Something to make you think:"How to deal with toxic people. Keep the conversation neutral. Keep the conversation brief. Keep the conversation superficial. They don't need more information. They don't need more fuel. They don't need your vulnerability. Keep the good stuff for those you trust." Something to make you act.The other day, one of you stopped me in the street - (Shoutout Victor) - and asked me a really good question: "If you could go back to your 21 year old self now, what are some mistakes you would warn your younger self about?" It's a good question because there are so, so, so many. But, for this week's edition - I whittled it down to 8 really key ones.
The longer you leave it, the harder the conversation becomes, and the more it negatively affects other team members. 2. Don't give away equity easily. Always think "why?" If you are not crystal clear on what someone brings to the business, don't give them equity - it is not free money. 3. Raise your prices sooner. You may not believe it now, but you can absolutely raise your prices and - in 99% of cases - make more money immediately. 4. Only hire people if you have a process for them. Don't hire a salesperson and be like "go sell." Give them a sales process to work within. The best way to do this is to do the function yourself first, create a system, then hire someone to fit in that system. 5. Don't be scared of spending money. Money is abundant, not scarce. Embrace that mindset and you attract more of it. Don't spend recklessly, but don't be overly frugal. 6. Sell more to your existing customers, don't just relentlessly chase new ones. Old customers are 100x easier to sell to than new customers. Do it more. 7. You do not need to "test" every marketing channel. Use logic to find 3 that are the most likely to work. Test those 3, then double down on the best one. Juice it until it's empty, then choose a new marketing channel. 8. Pay for experience. Money is a tool to pay for speed and experience. Use it. Don't hire a more junior person because they cost £10K less. Hire someone because they are 5x more skilled, and happen to cost £10K more. Morning, Hope you’ve had an amazing week, smashing goals and setting the bar higher. So… my product launch is finally behind us, and I’ve been doing some reflecting (as always 😅). Some things went really well, and others… well, let’s just say they went hilariously sideways. Like, the kind of wrong you have to laugh at or you’ll cry. But hey, that’s also the game, right? In the spirit of celebrating both the wins and the “what-was-that-even?” moments, I’ve got something special for you this...
